As I go through these busy mom days, I often spin my wheels in the muck of ‘every day’.
I get so focused on the daily activities that eternal matters become less than important.
I get so focused on the paint color and strokes of the painting, that I can see the whole canvas.
Isn’t it amazing that we get so stuck on details that we lose the big picture?
Sometimes as frazzled moms we need encouragement just to make it through the day! Sometimes we need to be reminded that there’s something more, something higher, something eternal. There is something we are working for that is higher than our little families!
Recently, my kids and I were having a bad day. I’m sure you can relate. If you can’t, please send me an email right now with your secrets.
After we had enough, I sent my kids to their rooms to play independently and I put myself in timeout. I sat and tried to calm myself.
As I sat there trying to come up with a plan to rescue the rest of the day, God reminded me that it’s not about this day or the next day, it’s about all the days. It’s about eternity.
When you live through enough days there’s going to be some bad ones. People and/or kids get sick, tired or hungry. Sometimes we need some extra alone time or maybe an extra hug. But the truth is, bad days happen.
When I stepped back to get a better view of the big picture, it became clear.
Its not about cleaning up messes. It’s about cleaning hearts and wanting a clean life.
Its also not about piles of laundry but it’s about putting on Gods armor daily.
And it’s about keeping God first and teaching my kids how to do these things also.
After God restored this clarity, I started gathering an arsenal of verses to use when I feel weighed down and weary by all the details of life. These verses remind me of God’s big plan and how my family fits into it.
I want to encourage you to live with clarity in order to prevent get stuck in the details of every day life.
Here’s how to live with clarity –
- You need lots of scripture in your life to maintain a healthy perspective.
- Read through the scriptures below and pick a few that speaks to you where you are.
- Write those verses.
- Spend several minutes meditating over these verses. Think about how they fit into your life or how they challenge you.
- Write down what God is saying to you. Is He saying you need to be closer? Is He challenging you to read more or pray more? Maybe He wants you to meditate on Him more? Whatever it is, write it down.
- Pray. Meditation should lead you straight into prayer. It’s a beautiful transition into worshipful prayer.
- Repeat this at least daily to maintain a healthy eternal focus.
Your Clarity Verses –
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.
And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.
1 Thessalonians 5:23
Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
“Mortals, born of woman, are of few days and full of trouble. They spring up like flowers and wither away; like fleeting shadows, they do not endure.
Psalm 144: 3-4
Lord, what are human beings that you care for them, mere mortals that you think of them? They are like a breath; their days are like a fleeting shadow.
Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.” As it is, you boast in your arrogant schemes. All such boasting is evil.1 Peter 4:7-11
The end of all things is near. Therefore be clear minded and self-controlled so that you can pray. Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.
1 John 3:2-3
Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure.
Pay careful attention, then, to how you walk-not as unwise people but as wise-making the most of the time, because the days are evil .
Before the mountains were born, before You gave birth to the earth and the world, from eternity to eternity, You are God.
Your throne has been established from the beginning; You are from eternity.
For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find
disorder and every evil practice. But the wisdom that comes
from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate,
submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.
2 Timothy 3:16-17
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking,
correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may
be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Now they were bringing even infants to him that he might touch them. And when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them. 16 But Jesus called them to him, saying, “Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. 17 Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.”
Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth.
For this reason you also must be ready; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour when you do not think He will.
2 Thessalonians 3:5
May the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God and into the steadfastness of Christ.
But the one who endures to the end, he will be saved. This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come.
For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ;
