Health is such a precious commodity and yet so many people see it as a pipe dream.
Anything great in life takes effort. It also requires a step approach. You have to start with basics then progress. It doesn’t do a lot of good to progress on a shaky foundation and that includes our health.
There is so much data concerning the topic of health. It’s easy to become overwhelmed. I wanted to share a simple, essential to-do list for everyone, but especially beginners.
Our culture is fed so many lies about what you need to do be healthy. Specifically, what you need to buy to be healthy. However, if you remind yourself that God tells us what we need then the smoke screen is cleared away. You can read more about a simple approach to food here.
1 Corinthians 10:31
So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
If you remove the flood of misinformation and replace it with solid, healthy information you’ll be amazed simple getting healthy really is. A few simple things can make a big difference.
The tips below are the basics of health. Everyone should do these. These are not suggestions for health. These are essential. You should master these before dealing with more advanced topics like essential oils or supplements. Essential oils and supplements are amazing and I want you to learn more about it but let’s set a foundation first. It’s useless to take supplements if you are not drinking enough water to metabolize them.
Without a solid foundation, your body can’t really use the extra.
When I started working on my health I started with these three basics.
Try to get this right every day. Well, at least most of the time. Live by an 80% rule meaning; get it right at least 80% of the time.
So, here goes –
- Drink half your body weight in ounces of water every day. For your health, this is nonnegotiable. You need water for every basic cellular function. Don’t let yourself believe lies like my body can use water in tea or soda. Or I’ll drink when I’m thirsty. Why make your body work or wait for something it needs anyway? If you don’t like water, try lemon in it or go for bottled water. You may end up needing to get used to it. It doesn’t matter how you get it in, just get it in every day. When you convince yourself that water is essential for life, it’s easy to make sure you get enough.
- Eat lots of fruit and veggies. Focus on simply increasing your fresh foods. Here are a couple guidelines that I use 1) eat a fruit or veggie with every meal and 2) make sure half your meal is fresh. Eating fresh foods is vital to health. Vital is the key word. We need fruit and veggies to survive. Vitamins and minerals are directly absorbed from fresh foods. Your body knows what to do with the compounds from fruits and vegetables. Again find something you like and eat more of it. Your body will thank you.
- Get active. The best exercise for you is the one you’ll do. Ha!!! That’s so true. It doesn’t matter what you do, just get moving. Do a little more today than you did yesterday. I love to get outside and walk with my kids. I rarely workout at the gym because I have small kids. That’s ok, because I try to stay active. Find your groove. Here are some suggestions 1) go to the park and walk while the kids play 2) go on a hike or 3) power walk at the mall followed by a little shopping. It doesn’t have to cost money either. This item is also essential for life. There is so much information out there about the benefits of being active. Research and convince yourself that you need this and your body will thank you.
If you keep spinning your wheels on the health stuff, raise the bar. You are doing something less than good. Maybe you need more good stuff than you are putting in. Eat more good food, get more active and flush your system with enough water every day.
I know you’ve heard all this before. This is certainly not new information but when you are consistent with the basics, you’ll see results.
I love getting back to basics. If you need a boost, start here.
Get these right most days and you’ll be on your way to a healthier you!!
