Our family loves holidays. I know you’ve read this before! But it’s true!! We love to do fun things together. And I love to find ways to reinforce why these days are so important.
When we are trying to learn wonderful truths during holidays, we focus on a single topic at a time – a central theme.
For Easter, our central theme is so easy that we can stay with it the entire Easter season. We focus all Easter on the empty tomb. Yes, Jesus died. We talk about that too especially as they get older but when my kids were little we simply talked about ’empty and full’. As the years have progressed, so has our depth of learning.
At age 6, we learn that Jesus had to die and be placed in the tomb for the tomb to be empty. The focus is still on the miracle that the tomb is empty. This year we are memorizing two Bible verses to compliment our learning.
We memorize at age 6 by copying the words in our journal. I do this too. We also recite/memorize all week long. Holy week (from Palm Sunday to Easter) is a great time to spend extra time in God’s Word.
Matthew 28:6 “He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.”
John 11:25 “Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.”
I hope you enjoy this wonderful holiday and the fabulous learning opportunities it will present.
