Summer is here.
Everything about this season is fabulous! Except that the fun has to end.
We can plan our days or float around. It doesn’t matter how you choose your summer to do list. What matters is that you make sure you pray. Everything we do needs prayer, even our seasons.
Summer is especially important because we can let the whole season pass before we do anything intentional. It’s too easy to do, unfortunately.
I suggest you find some time with your family this week to pray over what will be happening this summer.
Here are three simple prayers for your summer.
1) Safety
Summer is so fun but playing in the water, playing with fireworks, and simply being in the sun can be unsafe if we are not diligent or at least aware of the risks. While we can not be aware of all the risks, we can turn our situation over to God. He can see all the dangers and will protect us.
In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety. Psalm 4:8
God, our great Protector, thank you for the safety you provide. Thank you for seeing things that we can not. As summer starts and we enjoy all the things that summer brings, help us to be aware of the danger around us. Keep us safe. Amen.
2) Live Joyfully
Life is a gift and we should enjoy it.
Summer brings good times and fond memories in a way that no other season can. Spending time with family in the heat is one of my favorite things to do. We throw frisbee, play tee-ball, and eat.
What do you enjoy? I mean down in your spirit, what do you really enjoy? Water? Family? Both? Grilled foods?
Whatever you enjoy, go enjoy it and be thankful that God gave you that moment.
This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24
God thank you for the pleasures of life. Thank you that you gave us this day, which is a gift. Thank you for the people you’ve given us to enjoy! Help us to not take them for granted or fail to show love toward them. God fill our lives with your Joy so we may shine brightly in a dark world. Amen.
3) Make an eternal difference
Summer time is fun and lazy! But it would be a shame to let it pass without making a difference.
Internal – Memorize some scriptures this summer. One verse a week is a good goal. Daily scripture reading is vital, too. Summer is a great time to work on a reading habit with your kids. Enjoy the slow days to work on some good habits.
External – Help others this summer. Find an elderly person to spend time with. Make sure they are staying cool. Take your local firefighters some baked goods or volunteer at VBS. Do something for others. It’s what life all about.
For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as anopportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. Galatians 5:13
God, thank you for the opportunity to serve others and to strengthen our own spiritual disciplines this summer. Summer is a gift to be used for more than fun! Please remind us of this and help us to serve well this summer. Amen.
