Why I Love the Rain

April 17, 2017 By Susan 2 Comments

 Why I Love the Rain

Rain. Do you hear it? Just imagine, the sound of water drops on the roof that relaxes you to the point of deep sleep. Sleep better than you’ve experienced in months. Do you see it? The way the wind blows the rain, it almost looks like a wave sweeping across the ground. What about driving under an overpass, how the rain pauses for a brief moment and then starts again? Rain awakens our senses if we let it.

Rain is given by design and its purpose is why I am in love with it. I believe rain is vital for life. We cannot live without it and there is no substitute for it. The job rain performs can only be done by rain. Here are some reasons why I love the rain.

1) Refreshment

I’m sure you’ve seen hot summers when the sun has blistered down for multiple days straight it causes the earth to crack open. Almost begging for a drink. Then a drop of rain falls from the heavens. The cool water touches the hot, dry ground and steam begins to rise. Ahhh, relief!

It seems when a refreshing rain is close, the wind sends a warning that refreshment is just around the corner. Days when it is too hot to be outside become inviting and comfortable when the atmosphere changes. Rain is coming; the wind is telling us so.

2) Renewal

Ever notice how a plant turned brown turns back to green after a decent rain? Or maybe you have a house plant that is struggling to survive (that’s my plants, ugh)? After a few days of nourishment, the plant perks back up and its life is renewed.

3) Relaxation and Rest

Oh, the sound of drops of water hitting a metal roof. Does it get any better? What about sitting on a porch watching the rain fall? It’s hypnotizing. Visually and audibly rain is relaxing. God made nature for many purposes including to relax us.

Part of God’s creation design is for us to rest. Our bodies need it. We are not designed to always work. Don’t get me wrong, we are designed to work but not work every moment of every day. Take your cues from nature – relax and rest.

4) New Life

After planting seeds, the rain is needed to help the seeds grow and become plants. The seeds could be plants that will provide food for your family or grass for your family to enjoy. Seeds alone will not grow plants. It requires rain. Rain is vital for new life.

5) Cleansing

Rain cleans the earth. It washes away the impurities so the ground can become clean again. Think about the oil that drips from our cars or waste from animals. If the ground were never cleaned, things would become unbearable very quickly.

6) Refills

In nature, a stream carries water downstream. During the summer, a stream will lose water to evaporation. If the dry period is long the stream could become completely dry. However, the next rain that comes will fill up the stream or replenish the water that was lost.

I will send down the showers in their season;

they shall be showers of blessing. Ezekiel 34:26

Some insight from rain –

There are many verses in scripture that show rain as a spiritual symbol. Observing rain in nature, then observing rain in scripture gives deep insight and a beautiful picture.

  1. Rain can refresh the hottest and driest of lives. Our lives can become dry and blistered as we work in the hot atmosphere of life. We can get overheated from the harsh conditions and we need some refreshment.
  2. Life gives us some hard days and we get a little brown around the edges. Sometimes we get dry and brittle from prolonged neglect. Our soul begins to suffer. After a long, hard season, our bodies get weak from the lack of God’s word.
  3. Spiritually, seeds are sown and watered, and then new life emerges. We share the Good News and God works in the person’s heart. Then when the individual chooses to live a life committed to Christ, a new life is created. Wow!! New life in Christ can only exist when there is seeds and water. This is the greatest blessing – to have new life and to share it with others. If you do not have new life, please contact me to find out how to get it. If you do, I encourage you to find your passion for others and realize their lostness. Then share the seeds so God can bring the rain.

Do you have too much to do or maybe you need some encouragement? Are you becoming dry and blistered? If you are working hard for the Kingdom and you’re hot and tired, God can bring refreshment that will fill your energy and your excitement for Him and for others. Pray for God to send spiritual rain for your needs.

I made a printable for you. Download it in order to remind you that rain is a blessing!

God is so creative!! I hope you can spend some time soaking up God and His creation this week.

Soak it up,

Susan

What a great and insightful post! I’m going to remember this next time it rains figuratively and even literally (as a reminder of the figurative)!
